Its been a while since I've had a chance to blog. With business taking off and spending more time at competitions talking with coaches and athletes alike it's made me realize the smaller things that would be nice to have.
For example, how much time do you spend in your gym doing things like re-taping down the tape measure, checking quick links on bar sets, replacing spin & snap locks on your bar sets or all of the other miscellaneous items that need to be done? My guess is that until they go bad and your in a bind most of us neglect these things and then come meet time it puts us in a bind.
I've watched these situations happen every time and I've listened to some of the things that people do, for example hiding a couple pounds of chalk, having a stash of extra quick links, and maybe even a cable tensioner or two on hand.
Putting together a check list of items that you need to check regularly in the gym and get your athletes use to looking for these things as well such as having them glance at the quick links on the bars every time they chalk up as they would their grips. Make your coaches responsible for checking their events every month or two and replace things ahead of time such as cables, cable tensioners, springs for boards, etc.
We teach our athletes to have back up pairs of grips, wristbands, tiger paw inserts, so when you rip their grips in half 5 days before a meet they are not stressing about how they are going to break in another pair in time. So we should take the same responsibility with our equipment and be prepared the same way.
Other things that can help are things like changing out your tape measure to an EAS Stay-Put tape so that your not spending time and energy re-taping the vault tape down. This saves time and you won't have to re-set it every time you hold a meet. It is a cost effective tool that saves time and money.
